A Walk Down 5th Street, Las Vegas, New Mexico
Las Vegas, New Mexico is known for its unique architecture, ancient adobe homes, its simple farm houses, its vibrant "painted ladies" - purple, orange, sky blue Victorian homes built over a hundred years ago during Vegas' glory days.
Here are some photos I took of 5th Street when the weather was kind, when the summer grasses grew green, when the purple and blue Victorians echoed the tufts of sage flower that haunt every forgotten corner of town. 5th Street consists of an eclectic mix of architectural styles, from gorgeous Victorian homes built in the late 1800's to simple ranch and stucco-style residences. This is one of the town's Historic Districts. Most of the Victorians in the photographs below are in the Carnegie Library Park Historic District.
5th Street travels from South to North, and extends from Grand Avenue to Mill Avenue. Robertson High School - the City of Las Vegas Schools district High School - sits at 5th and Baca. Robertson has been going through some renovations, and after these photographs were taken this past summer, they have added a beautiful outdoor amphitheater on 5th Street.
